Ms. Katherine Grimes-Dupee's Obituary
Katherine Grimes-Dupee, 92, passed away Monday, February 12, 2024 after a lengthy illness at her home in Memphis, Tennessee. She was born to Clinton Antonia (Tony) and Helen Grimes in Christian County, Kentucky.
Katherine graduated from Attacks High School, M&F College at night, Hopkinsville Community College, and studied Business Correspondence by mail from LaSalle Extension University in Chicago. She united with Gainesville Baptist Church during her youth where she learned to play the piano proficiently. This would become her introduction into the world of music. She became the church piano player for that church and many other local churches in the area. She loved gospel music and was acquainted with many singers and musicians who performed on the Chitlin' Circuit who later became great names in the entertainment industry. Katherine was married to Hershel Buckner and Frank Dupee, both preceded her in death. Marriage and motherhood kept her busy, but she managed to work a variety of jobs in Hopkinsville and Memphis. She retired at age 62 from American Koyo Corporation where she worked on the assembly line. Retirement gave her time to enjoy and plan fun things with her family. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, entertaining, singing, and her piano playing of gospel music. She is survived by her 6 children, 7 grand children and 7 great-grand children; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
