Kathryn L Hazlett's Obituary
Kathryn L Hazlett, 94, of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, sadly passed away on September 22, 2024. She was born on November 20, 1929, in Omaha, Nebraska, to the late Edwin Henry Thomas and Alta Reed Thomas. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Rae.
My Mother, Kathryn, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning. She was on Hospice care for about 3 years, with me in Flagstaff, Arizona (Northland Hospice) then living at the Olivia White Hospice Home until I again moved her with me in my home in Bonners Ferry, Idaho (Auburn Crest Hospice).
Kathy was born in Omaha, Nebraska, moving to Northern California in her late teens. She was married to Jim Switzer for a year before he passed away from pneumonia. Months later she met my Dad, John A. Hazlett, an Airman in the Air Force, in Oakland, California. She lived in Hawaii at Hickam Air Base; Belleville, Illinois; Roseburg, Oregon; Dayton, Ohio; Lake of the Ozark area, Missouri; Nashville, Tennessee; and Flagstaff, Arizona.
Kathy worked as a nurses aide, payroll accounts, and as a secretary at the Nazarene College in the PA program. She then devoted herself to her work at the Nazarene Church teaching, assisting in the office, and visitation - this was her love, working with others, many dear friends, sharing her faith and what she understood from her ongoing studies in the Bible. She was a prayer warrior for many, filled with unending faith and patience.
Mom was an eternal optimist, always encouraging, sharing, and listening, supporting however she was able to, for so many family, friends, and church members. She had a great love of traveling and sense of adventure, loved camping, walking, hiking, and exploring to see what was around the next corner or over the next mountain. She visited my family in Northern Idaho and Southern California, enjoying our off the grid home or camping. She white water rafted on the West Fork of the Glacier River and went canoeing with myself and her grandchildren Sara and Ahren (my daughter and son) on the Kootenai River. Mom and I shared a deep love and shared many stories over the phone and in person, would cry and laugh, so hard we couldn’t speak.
Kathy had 2 children, myself, Donna Rae, born in San Francisco and David Allen, born in Hawaii at Hickam Air Base (deceased winter of 2023). David’s daughter, Betina, has two children, Addison and Bentley, living in TN. Mom helped care for David’s daughter and step daughter, Betina Thompson and step daughter Corina when they were young in Nashville. My daughter, Sara Newcomb, and husband, Zach Newcomb, live in Spokane, WA, with their children, Lydia, Peter, Khloe, twins Andy and Teddy; Zach’s daughter Ashlynn resides in North Carolina with her mother. My son, Ahren RaeWill is in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Kathy is in the arms of God where I know she now rests with joy and peace.
