Lamar Shipman's Obituary
Arrendal Lamar Shipman, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2022. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, February 23 from 1:00 pm until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Pike in Nashville. The committal will privately follow.
Arrendal Lamar Shipman was the first born to Jess and Vera Shipman, born during the depression. He later had a sister (Laverne) and a brother (Fredrick).
He was born in West Tennessee, but the family moved to Old Hickory, Tennessee when he was young. He went to Depont High School where he played football and met the love of his life Martha Lucille Smith at one of the football games. She was going to a rival School.
They got married before he was shipped overseas to Japan, between the Korean and Vietnam wars.
His father and uncle started Shipman Painting store in Old Hickory, and while he was in the Army, his father sold out to his uncle. Lamar was not happy about that.
When he came back home, they settled in a little farm in Goodlettsville. They only had 1 son, but Martha babysat a lot of children so the house was aways filled with kids.
Lamar worked for Tennessee Electric Services for most of his career and retired in the late 1990’s. After that Lamar and Martha did a lot of travelling until Marth had a stroke and she could not travel. She died in 2013.
Lamar moved into McKindree Assisted Living and lived there until his death this last week.
Mr. Shipman was preceded in death by his parents, brother Fredrick and his wife Martha.
He will be missed by his Son, Brian (Teresa Shipman), Goddaughter Amy Wooten, Grandchildren Rachel Shipman Anschicks (Erik), James Shipman (Veronica), Morgan, Abigail and Michael Shipman, his great grandchildren Ellibeth and Samuel Shipman, his sister Laverne Mabry and many nieces and nephews across the south and those that got to know him over the years.
