Mr. Lorin Rudolph Mierzwa's Obituary
Lorin Rudolph Mierzwa, age 66, went home to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015. Lorin was born on June 17, 1948 in Garden City, Michigan to the late Kazmier and Gertrude Mierzwa. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.
His family recalls that Lorin always put family first. “He lived to love my mom,” remembers daughter, Shannon. His love of family was evident to all who knew him. Lorin was a hard worker, sometimes working two or three jobs to make sure that his family was taken care of. He had a big personality, too. “You knew when Lorin came into a room, and you knew when he left,” remembers his wife, Sherry. Lorin had a great sense of humor and was always coming up with one-liners.
Lorin never met a stranger. He was always talking to people, sharing stories, and making friends wherever he went. Whether it was helping someone move or helping on the job, Lorin could always be counted on to roll up his sleeves and lend a hand. His kindness even extended to the many four-legged strays that his wife, Sherry, brought home.
Lorin was a great cook. During his service with the United States Army, one of Lorin’s primary responsibilities was as an aide to the General. He learned how to cook for the General, and it was a skill that he brought home with him. “He could make exotic stuff just as well as the everyday stuff,” remembers his wife.
In his younger days, Lorin loved to be outdoors. He grew tomatoes and cucumbers for his family.
Along with his wife, Lorin was also a member of St. Joseph Church and sang in the choir.
Lorin is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sherry Mierzwa; sons, Lorin “Todd” and Keith Isaac Mierzwa; daughter Shannon Mierzwa Parker (Justin); brothers, Jan and Eric Mierzwa; sister, Grace Widdowson; grandson, Everhett Stone Parker; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.
Lorin’s family will receive friends on Friday, April 10, 2015 from 4pm until 8pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited at 6:30pm. Additional visitation will take place on Saturday, April 11, 2015, from 9am until 11am at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Father Terry McGowan will preside over a Funeral Mass at 11am on Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Historic Spring Hill Cemetery, with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
