Louise Cook Holmes' Obituary
HOLMES, Louise Cook, Age 92, of Nashville, TN passed away Tuesday July 14, 2009. She was born March 21, 1917 in Macon County Tennessee, where she received her education followed by a business course in Nashville where she worked for eighteen years for Estes Lumber Company before moving to Madeira Beach, Florida where she resided and worked as a bookkeeper and land developer until returning to Nashville in 2005. She was a member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church of St. Petersburg, Florida. She is preceded in death by her parents, Wesley H. Cook and Lottie Deckard Cook as well as her husband Frank Holmes who was killed in the South Pacific early during World War II. Other family members to precede her in death were: An infant sister Inez Cook and an older sister Glenna Cook Wilson (Harold) of Madison and a brother, Cleon H. Cook (Geraldine) of Hendersonville, Tennessee. She is survived by her twin sister Lucille Cook Handy of Nashville; nieces: Mandy Wilson McDougal (Dan) Lebanon, Tennessee, Judy Wilson Bridwell (Bill) Goodlettsville, Tennessee, Patricia Davis Frye (Alton) McLean, Virginia, Paula Davis Leachman (Lamar) Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, David C. Handy Bradenton, Florida, Michael H. Handy (Lu Anne); Sanford, North Carolina, David L. Cook (Pat) Hendersonville, Tennessee, as well as twenty-one Great nieces and nephews. Mrs. Holmes continues her dedication to philanthropy through a charitable trust established for various regional and national organizations. Funeral services will be on Friday at 10AM in the chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
