Ms. Maggie "Peggy" Duty's Obituary
Maggie Schutt “Peggy”, Devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, age 92, went home to her Heavenly Father on July 14, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-six years, Jeffie “Jimmie” Duty; father, Clem Schutt; mother, Callie Mae Schutt; father-in-law, Arnett Duty; mother-in-law, Roxie Duty; sister, Helen Marie Schutt; cousin, Carl Schutt; and dear friends, Charles and Esther Lehman. She is survived by her son, Paul William Duty; daughter-in-law, Kelly Duty; grandchildren, Kathleen and Erica Duty; Philip and Pat Gilbertson; sister, Anna Sneed; brother, George Schutt; sister, Kitty Wilson; and a host of family and friends. Peggy was born in East Nashville. Soon after, she moved with her family to the Germantown neighborhood of North Nashville where she was raised. She was a member of the Greatest Generation and survived The Great Depression and World War 2 wherein her young husband fought against the Axis powers in Europe and she labored in many home front industries. She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church and attended North High School. After the war, she worked for Nashville Electric Service for many years before retiring to become a full time mother. Later in life she enjoyed a long second career working for Nashville’s Baptist Hospital. She loved God, gardening, cooking and most of all, her grandchildren. Visitation will be held Spring Hill Funeral Home in Madison, TN on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 from 10am-2pm and 4pm-8pm . Funeral services will be conducted at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Donelson, TN on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at 10am, Rev. Rick Roberts officiating, Barbara Belden, soloist, with interment to follow at Spring Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Mike Sneed, Mark Sneed, Kevin Schutt, Chris Schutt, Joe Schutt, Randy Schutt, Jacob Schutt, Jerad Schutt, Stuart Meinhart and John Collier. Honorary pallbearers will be George Schutt, Phillip Gilbertson, Glen Carson and Bill Pilkington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alive Hospice or Shriners Children’s Hospitals.
