Margaret Stark McMurtry's Obituary
Margaret Stark McMurtry, Born January 4, 1920 in the Number One community between Hendersonville and Gallatin, she lived in or near Hendersonville her entire life. She died September 4, 2012. She was the oldest child of William Arthur and Madge Bloodworth Stark. Preceeded in death by her husband of 54 years Fred Harold McMurtry. Also preceded in death by her sisters Charlotte Stark, Lucille Stark Hall, Joyce Stark Blocker and brother Arthur Eugene Stark. She is survived by nieces and nephews Charlotte Hall Martin, William Vann Hall, Judith Lynn (Jim) Hill, Eugene (Frankie) Hall, J.C. Blocker, Jeffrey Blocker, and Bob (Lynne) Bohnenstiel. She was a member of First Families of Tennessee. She graduated from Gallatin High school in 1938 and worked at Genesco Shoe Factory in Gallatin for 41 years. She was a life-long member of the Hendersonville Church of Christ until her failing health prevented her attendance. After losing her only brother in World War II, she supported veterans’ causes throughout her life. She was a charter member and president of the VFW Post 9851 Ladies Auxiliary. After her retirement from Genesco, she learned quilting and made many beautiful quilts for family and friends. She enjoyed membership in the Hendersonville Lakeshore Quilters for many years. The family would like to thank the caring and dedicated staff of the Claire Bridge center at Homewood Residence at Brookmont Terrace in Bellevue. They along with Priority Hospice Care provided her much comfort and love during her time there. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 from 2-7pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home. A funeral ceremony will be conducted on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at 11 am in the chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior.
