Born February 19, 1951 in Nashville, Tennessee, Margie Sue Spain Butler rarely met a stranger, and once she befriended you, she did not forget you.
As a teenager, she discovered a love of dancing, a pastime that eventually took her to the stage of the Grand Ole Opry as a member of the Stoney Mountain Cloggers, who performed there regularly.
After graduating from Isaac Litton High School, Margie earned certifications in Cosmetology. At the age of 18, she became a Cosmetology Instructor at Inglewood University of Beauty and then continued to teach Cosmetology at Beech Senior High School for another 25 years, where she delighted in the progress and successes of hundreds of students whom she loved dearly.
Although the joys of her retirement were cut short, she enjoyed several years of caring for her beloved mother, aunts and uncle, and grandchildren.
Margie was preceded in death by parents Margaret E. Lambert and Archie G. Spain and brothers, Billy Spain and Archie N. Spain.
She is survived by her son Michael (Amber) Butler and daughter Michele (Chad) Rogers, grandchildren Kaitlin (Bryce) Ellis, Mylee Rogers and Knox Rogers, brother David Spain and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family extends a special thanks to Margie’s caregiver Lindsey Whisenant and her longtime treasured friends and “soul sisters,” Elaine Helton, Renee Hoffman and Sandy Wilson.
