Mrs. Marie Lloyd Beard's Obituary
Katherine Marie Lloyd Beard, age 102, widow of Doyle Irwin Beard and a resident of West Meade in Nashville, passed peacefully on the morning of Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Green Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center.
The Boston, Kentucky native was the daughter of the late Oliver Warren and Carrie Wells Lloyd. She was the salutatorian of her graduating class at Boston High School. Upon relocating to Nashville. she was affiliated with Cain-Sloan Department Store in customer service, where she did modeling in the Junior Department.
During World War II she and her husband moved to Tampa, Florida and were employed in the shipbuilding industry. In Tampa, she met her life-long best friend, Ruby Lovell, also of Nashville. She was a life-long member of the Woodmont Christian Church in Green Hills.
Marie enjoyed reading and attending Vanderbilt football games. She was certified in graphoanalysis (IGAS) and a superb homemaker, dedicated to her family and their activities.
She is survived by a daughter, Shirley Ann Beard Ewers; a son, James Doyle (June) Beard; a sister, Juanita (D.B.) Crady; a brother, Clyde (Billie Sue) Lloyd; three grandsons, Jeffrey Morrison Ewers, Matthew William Ewers, and Isaac (Christy) Beard; three great grandchildren, Ethan Dotson, Gabriel Beard, and Zoe Beard; and a multitude of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters Mabel (Hanley) Cheatham and Blanche (Paul) Miller, and by brothers Calvin (Ruth) Lloyd, Gilbert (Gladys) Lloyd, and Clifford Lloyd.
A ‘Celebration of Life’ will be conducted Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 1:00PM at Spring Hill Funeral Home with Reverends Clay Stauffer of Woodmont Christian Church and Anne Alexander Stauffer of Cottage In The Woods officiating.
The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 11:00AM until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in the historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
