Marila Fuqua's Obituary
Marila Fuqua, 84, of Gallatin, TN, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on May 2, 2024. She was born January 29, 1940, in Florence, Alabama to Ewell and Elisabeth Hardy Pollard. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ewell and Elisabeth Hardy Pollard, and grandfather, Dr. C.E. Hardy, of Nashville. Those left behind to cherish her memory are loving husband of 63 years, Bill Fuqua, Sr., children, Laura (Lee) Greengrass, Beth (Jimmy) Isbell, Chip Fuqua, grandchildren, Christian (Shelby) Greengrass, Maegan Isbell, Kimberly Isbell, Elissa Greengrass, Wilson Fuqua, Liam Fuqua, and great grandson, Kenny Greengrass. She attended the University of Tennessee School of Nursing in Memphis, Tennessee and graduated from Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Nashville, Tennessee. Marila served her community as a registered nurse for 42 years, although her caregiving extended far beyond her professional experience. During her nursing career, she also taught at Valdosta State Vocational Technical School in Valdosta, Georgia and The Medical Assistants School in Honolulu, Hawaii. Marila served as an Air Force officers wife for 62 years. She served with Bill in the Deacon Family Ministry program at Mililani Baptist Church Millilani Town, Hawaii. Marila was a founding member of the Hendersonville Police Department’s Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association and served as its first president. She lived a truly beautiful life and had a positive impact on young people’s lives in her family, her church, and the nursing profession. Her influence through her unwavering faith and contagious joy will continue to resonate in the lives of those she touched.
Family will receive friends from 11:15 am until 1 pm on May 11, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Hendersonville. A Celebration of Life will take place at 1 pm with entombment to follow at Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
