Mrs. Marjorie "Missy" Martin's Obituary
Martin, Majorie Collins – Age 98 of Hendersonville, TN. Known to her family as Missy. November 2, 2016 at her home. Born March 13, 1918 the third of five children of Sanford and Johnnie Collins. Preceded in death by her beloved husband of seventy years James G. Martin Jr. and her siblings, Floyd Collins, Muriel Minugh, Doyle Collins, and Bobby Collins. Mrs. Martin is survived by her sons James G. Martin III (Janis) and John S. Martin (Susan); her grandchildren Mary Ross Winsley (Jon), Dr. Emily Tarver (Nathan), Bryan Rachel Miller (Greg), Jamie Shuford (Adam), J. G. Martin II (Alicia) and Carter G. Baskin; and eleven great grandchildren Aiden and Madeline Winsley, Finn, Camp, and Rusty Tarver, Ford, Lucy and Henry Miller, Jay and Will Shuford and Rush Martin. A native of Russellville, AK, Mrs. Martin’s family moved when she was very young to Muskogee, OK. Her father was a dairy farmer and Mrs. Martin developed a love for horses and other animals. After the outbreak of WWII she met her future husband when he was on maneuvers in Oklahoma preparing to join the Allied Forces for the D-day invasion. They married before his departure for Europe and upon his discharge at the end of WWII they made their first home in Chattanooga. In 1949 Mrs. Martin and her husband moved to Hendersonville, Mr. Martin’s boyhood home. Mrs. Martin devoted her energy to her family as a wife and mother. She had a particular interest in her flower garden and in buying and selling antiques. She was a long term member of Hendersonville First Presbyterian Church. The family is especially grateful to Dr. Tom Miller and Ms. Carolyn Moore for the care they provided both Mrs. Martin and Mr. Martin for the last several years. Visitation with the family will be from noon to 1 pm Friday, November 4th in the Chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home, 5110 Gallatin Road, Nashville, TN 37216. Service will follow at 1:00 pm with the Rev. Michael Davis officiating. Grave side services for family and friends to follow at Spring Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers are J. G. Martin II, Rush Martin, Greg Miller, Ford Miller, Henry Miller, Lucy Miller, Carter Baskin, Adam Shuford, Jay Shuford, Will Shuford. Honorary pallbearers are Carolyn Moore, Gloria Deaner, Sprigg Ebbert, Jackie Decker, Ruth Lee, and Dr. Tom Miller. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Hendersonville First Presbyterian Church 172 W. Main Street, Hendersonville TN 37075.
