Martha Winn Norman's Obituary
On July 23, 2022, Martha Winn Lewis Norman passed away peacefully at age 86 after a brief illness. She was born to the late Warner Albert Winn and Sarah Powell Winn on October 14, 1935. She was the widow of Kenneth R. Lewis, Nashville, TN, and predeceased her husband, James Norman, Franklin, TN. Martha was the youngest of eight children, predeceased by her brothers Buford, Powell, Lewis, Howard, Hiram Elisha; sisters Sarah Ellen Terry and Betty Ruth Stannard.
Family was the delight and pride of Martha’s life. She leaves two children, Gregory (Lynn) Lewis of Nashville, TN, and Stacie (John) O’Flaherty of Sheridan, Indiana; grandsons Andy (Hannah) Lewis, Chattanooga, TN; Stephen Lewis, Nashville, TN; Jack O’Flaherty, Indianapolis, IN; Joey O’Flaherty, Sheridan IN; granddaughter, Jillian O’Flaherty, Sheridan, IN; great-grandson Maxwell Lewis; and “Freddy the Cat” given to her by her loving granddaughter. She also leaves behind a large family of loved and treasured nieces and nephews.
Martha was born at her mother’s home place in Clarksville, TN, called “Hickory Wild.” Martha graduated from Isaac Litton High School, class of 1953. She worked at Bell South/ATT for over forty years. Martha was a member of the Crieve Hall Church of Christ.
Martha enjoyed making crafts for family and friends. She started a small hobby business called “M.L Designs, Creations with Fabric and Paint”. Her designs included animals, birds, fish, flowers and,her favorite, patriotic designs. During the holidays, Martha would create Christmas sweatshirts and sweaters. Her grandchildren would receive Christmas stockings with her unique designs.
Martha also loved music and dance. She was an accomplished piano player and taught piano lessons for many years. She was a dancer and costume designer for the Donelson Senior Center tap dance group called the “High Steppers”. She loved the Big Band era and even met her first husband in 1954 at the Arthur Murray dance studio where she took lessons and he was the instructor.
Her life will be celebrated with family and friends in a graveside service at Spring Hill Cemetery on Friday at 1pm and time spent together following the service with loved ones sharing special stories and pictures
Arrangements have been entrusted to Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, "Where Nashville Comes to Remember."
