Martha Jane Petty's Obituary
NASHVILLE—Martha Jane Morrissey Petty was born on September 9, 1934, and passed away peacefully on April 17, 2024. Martha Jane was a loving and dedicated Christian, wife, mother, family member, teacher, and friend. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church where she served as a children’s Sunday School teacher for many years. Martha Jane was a retired teacher from Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools and taught first and second grades at Glenn and Tom Joy Elementary Schools for 32 years. Her love for and impact on children in East Nashville is immeasurable. She was preceded in death by husband Donald B. Petty, parents Roy D. and Mary Lou Talley Morrissey, brother James E. Morrissey, sisters-in-law Elnora Morrissey and Joan Morrissey, brothers-in-law Kenneth Petty and Wayne Petty, and nephew Joshua Morrissey. She is survived by daughter Elizabeth D. Petty; especially dear nephew James Joshua Morrissey, Jr., and niece Lauren A. Lynch; sisters-in-law Beverly Petty and Pat Petty; nieces and nephews Karen Morrissey, Jamie (Thomas) Lynch, Keith Morrissey, Darin (Becky) Morrissey, Michael (Barrie) Petty, Lynn (David) Taft, Jeremy Morrissey, Brandy Watson, Kaleigh Watson, Eric (Hilary) Taft, Emily (James) Word, Jake (Grace) Petty, Brock (Amber) Petty, Karaline Petty, Ethan Wood, Evan Wood, and Annalyn Taft. Visitation will be at Spring Hill Funeral Home in Madison, TN, on Thursday, April 25, 2024, from 3:00-7:00 P.M. and Friday, April 26, 2024, from 10:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M. The service will be at Spring Hill Funeral Home on Friday, April 26, 2024, at 12:00 P.M. Burial will immediately follow the funeral service at Spring Hill Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Memorial contributions can be made to Grace Baptist Church Psalm 67 Campaign, 1510 Old Hickory Blvd., Nashville, TN 37207.
