Mrs. Mary Ann Kistner's Obituary
Mrs. Mary Ann Kistner, age 81, of Nashville passed away on December 24, 2014. Mary Ann was born in Macon County, Tennessee on June 8, 1933. She was the only child of the late Lester and Jessie Oley Allen. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Her family recalls that Mary Ann was the sweetest person. It was as if she didn’t know how to be mean. Her husband of 64 years, Charles, recalls seeing her in the halls at high school. “I guess the love bug bit me. I didn’t date anyone after that,” he says. Mary Ann may have been an only child, but once she and Charles were married, she married into a family of twenty kids! She loved family. She and Charles have lived in the same house since 1982, and it was in that house that they hosted many holiday meals and get-togethers. Mary Ann could cook too ! She made almost anything, but was especially known for her cheese-and-macaroni, her cole slaw, and her cakes. She made a number of quilts too, and family recalls that she was always sewing something.
Mary Ann and Charles liked to work together in the yard, and Mary Ann had many flowers, particularly petunias and peonies. She also loved to sing…gospel hymns mostly. In fact, she and Charles would travel to Pigeon Forge every year for an annual gospel singing conference. It was a wonderful time.
Mary Ann is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Charles Kistner; sons, Danny (Page) Kistner, Jimmy (Sharon) Kistner, and Boyd (Kim) Kistner; ten grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Mary Ann’s family will receive friends and visitors on Monday, December 29, 2014 from 12:00pm until 8:00pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home. Pastor Kevin Bengtson shall lead a Celebration of Life service to honor Mary Ann on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 11:00am, from the Chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Laurel Hill Garden of Historic Spring Hill Cemetery, with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
