Mary Ann Carter's Obituary
Mary Ann Carter, our cherished mother and friend, left us on July 9th, 2025. Born on November 18th, 1938, in Cross Bridges, Tennessee, Mary Ann filled our lives with warmth, love, and unforgettable memories.
Mary Ann attended Litton High School. She met the love of her life on a blind date and shortly after married Marvin on April 30, 1955. They had four children together and she became a wonderful wife and mother. She was an excellent seamstress, but she didn't just stitch fabrics, she loved making her children's clothing. She loved camping and fishing, and her dedication extended beyond our home as she volunteered with local schools, touching many young lives with her kindness.
Mary Ann's world revolved around her family. She was a proud and caring mother to her daughters, Sheryl (Wayne) Gentry and Sylvia Broadrick; grandchildren, Jonah (Tara) Gentry, Joshua (Brittany) Gentry, Jason (Sola) Broadrick, Jordan (Dr. Clifford "Cliff") Raymond, Nick (Blake) Kincaid, Caitlin (Michael) Wilson, Kelsie Carter (Jeremy Wade), and Austin Carter; great-grandchildren, Gracie, Emma, Abel, Athan, Ava, Chad Gentry, Evelyn, Ruby, Adeline Raymond, Eliana, Aleiah Broadrick, Cohen, Tallulah Kincaid, Jeston, Cora Rigsby and Carter Wade. Her love for us was evident in everything she did, and she always made sure things were done her way—a trait that only endeared her more to us.
Mary Ann was preceded in passing by her parents, James Douglas Jr. and Mary Nell (Wherry) Burchard beloved husband, Marvin Edward Carter Sr., her daughter Alisa Cardin, and her son Marvin "Chip" Edward Carter Jr. and sons-in-law Jackie Broadrick and Steve Cardin. She missed them dearly and now joins them in peace.
The kitchen was the heart of Mary Ann's home. She loved reading cookbooks which in turn helped her become a wonderful cook. Her famous chicken and dumplings and crispy fried chicken brought us together around the table, filling both our stomachs and hearts. Cooking wasn't just a skill for her; it was a way to gather family and create lasting traditions.
We will miss her laughter, her stories, and the special way she brought us all together. Mary Ann's legacy lives on in the love she gave and the memories we share. Until we meet again, we hold her close in our hearts.
