Mary Lillian DePriest's Obituary
Mary DePriest passed away in peaceful sleep on May 20, 2022 at the age of 94. She was a resident of Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. She is preceded in death by her parents George and Sallie Stone, brothers George Stone Jr. and Billy Stone, sisters Sarah Jenkins and Jean Yount, cousin David Sellers, nephews Bill Jenkins, Tommy Jenkins, Owen Lehning, nieces Jane Brissey and Carol Russell, and grandson Scott Greene.
Mary is survived by her husband Robert Owen DePriest, son Robert Henry DePriest, daughter Connie and husband Bill Ellzey. Mary was proud of her grandchildren Wendy and husband Terry Johnston, Dave and wife Joy DePriest, Scott and wife Jennifer Greene, Wesley and wife Elizabeth Greene, and Shelly Greene. She loved her great grandchildren Macy and Mandy Johnston, Heath and Heather Greene, Bailey and Alyssa Greene, Greyson Dobis, Tensley and Addyson Thrower, Brandon and Connor DePriest. She loved her 18 nieces and nephews.
Mary graduated from Isaac Litton High School in Inglewood. She married Robert O. DePriest in 1947. She became a legal secretary while living in Memphis Tennessee. When Robert was transferred to Huntsville Alabama, she was proud to be an office administrator on the Saturn rocket program which later carried the first man to the moon.
Mary was a member of International Friends. She taught English to immigrants from Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos following the Vietnam War. She taught English to immigrants from Japan as well.
Mary sang in church choirs for around 35 years.
The family cordially invited guests and relatives for a time of visitation on Friday, May 26th, 2023, from four o'clock in the evening until seven o'clock in the evening, and on Saturday, May 27th, 2023, from nine o'clock in the morning until the chapel service at ten o'clock in the morning, with burial to follow at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Road, Nashville, TN 37216.
Arrangements are entrusted to Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, "Where Nashville Comes to Remember."
