Mary Frances McGhee High's Obituary
HIGH, Mary Frances McGhee, age 83, passed away November 12, 2009, surrounded by her family. Mrs. High died on the first anniversary of the death of her beloved husband of 60 years, Chancellor C. Allen High. She was a loving sister, mother, and wife with many devoted friends. She is survived by two sons, Charles Allen (Deborah Dixon) and David Erwin (Jane Shoun) High; a sister, Dot Webb of Vero Beach, Florida; and four granddaughters, Mary, Erin, Amanda and Taylor. Her parents were E.E. and Bobbie (Wise) McGhee. They owned McGhee Time Service Company where daughters, Dot and Mary Frances, worked together with their parents. She graduated from East Nashville High School and went on to the Ward Belmont College for Girls. She graduated from George Peabody College for Teachers with a degree in English and taught at Harpeth Valley School. Mary Frances had many interests and talents. She enjoyed writing and reading poetry. She was an avid bridge player becoming a life master of the American Contract Bridge League. She and Allen enjoyed playing tennis together and with friends. They were founding members of Saint James the Less Episcopal Church. For the last few years they resided at Belmont Village Assisted Living. Funeral Ceremonies will be held on Saturday, November 14th, at 3 PM in the chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home with Reverend Rob Courtney, Jr., officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 PM on Friday, November 13th, at the Spring Hill Funeral Home and Saturday, 1 - 3 PM. Interment will follow at Spring Hill with family serving as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to St. James the Less Episcopal Church, 411 Due West Ave., Madison, TN 37115.
