Mrs. Mary Ruth Hamilton's Obituary
Born to John Webster and Jennie Mai Lockhart Webster on February 8, 1926, and passed away peacefully in Las Vegas, NV on October 31, 2014.
Preceded in death by her first husband of 52 years and father of their children, Royce London Lehman Sr, her sister, Sue Webster Dance (Richard), her brothers, Thomas Leon Webster (Marie) and Charles William Webster (Betty), and her brothers-in-law Charles A. Lehman (Esta) and Harry C. Lehman (Esther.) She was also preceded in death by her second husband of 12 years, Dr. Jay G. Hamilton.
CHILDREN: Joseph Andrew Lehman (Teresa) - Las Vegas, NV, Cheryl Sue Lehman McFarlane (Fred) - San Diego, CA, Linda Carol Lehman Romeo (John) - Germantown, TN, Royce London Lehman Jr - Lexington, SC, Daughter-In-Law: Janet Hoge Lehman, Lexington, SC; GRANDCHILDREN: May Catharine Collins Lehman, Mary Elizabeth London Lehman Fuller (James), Zachary John Armstrong (Melanie), Rachel Armstrong Cedar (Omer), Creed Nelson Taylor (Danielle), Victoria Taylor Milligan (Matt), Diana Marie Romeo, Royce London Lehman III, Marilyn Ruth Lehman, Bart Thomas McFarlane, Marria Suzanne McFarlane; GREAT GRANDCHILDREN: Jordyn Rae McFarlane, Jerod Rudd McFarlane, Elijah Caleb Cedar, Samuel Joshua Cedar, Mason Wyatt Armstrong; STEP CHILDREN: David Hamilton, Donna Hamilton Caum (Albert), Sharon Hamilton Hooks (Nicky), Ken Hamilton (Sue).
Graduated from East High School - Class of 1944 where she was a cheerleader. She was an active Alumnae member, planning numerous reunions. Married Royce L. Lehman on July 12, 1944 during WWII while he was on leave from the U.S. Navy and was married until he died January 1, 1997. Born and raised in Nashville, she did follow Royce in his career with AT&T to Chattanooga, TN and Birmingham, AL before returning to Nashville where they settled in Bellevue. Mary Ruth never met a stranger and was the life of every party. She was deeply faithful and was a very active member of Hillwood Presbyterian Church since 1965 - member of the Hiram Dorsey Class, the Presbyterian Women, Bell Choir and was ordained as an Elder. She worked for Southern Bell until she became a mother, returning to work when her children began college. She was employed by Dr. Sam Cowan, Dr. Ralph R. Kling, Jr, Harpeth Valley Utilities District, Ireland’s Restaurants, Inc. , and HCA. She retired from HCA. She enjoyed sports and was an avid fan of Auburn Football. She could yell “War Eagle” with the best of them. Later in life, she followed the Atlanta Braves and the Tennessee Titans. She found loving companionship later in life and married Dr. Jay Hamilton on November 17, 2001.
A graveside ceremony will be held Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 12 Noon at the Historic Spring Hill Cemetery. Following the graveside, a Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be conducted at 3:00PM at the Hillwood Presbyterian Church. The family will visit with friends from 2:00PM until service time in the church parlor. Memorials may be made to the Martha O’Bryan Center or the Hillwood Presbyterian Church.
