Mrs. Mary Ann Overby's Obituary
Mary Ann (Filson) Overby, age 89, passed away on Friday, December 25, 2020 in Hendersonville. Mary Ann was born in Nashville on March 18, 1931 to the late James Holman Filson and Christine (White) Filson.
Mrs. Overby can be remembered for her smile and friendliness to everyone and anyone that she met. She did many things that brought her joy from gardening to cooking, but nothing brought her more joy than the time that she spent with her family. She was a former member of Dalewood Baptist Church, Nashville, and currently a member of First Baptist Church Hendersonville, where she enjoyed choir, mission projects, and working at the Family Ministry Center. Traveling the country by motorcycle with Dan was a favorite activity.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, Daniel A. Overby; son, Phillip Overby Sr.; grandson, Winky Overby; sister, Peggy Filson Anderson; brothers, James Holman Filson, Jr., William Filson, and David Filson.
Mrs. Overby is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Overby Forsythe (Sam); sons, Cliff Overby (Joni), Jeffrey Overby (Melissa), and Kevin Overby (Christy); daughter-in-law and wife of Phillip, Shirley Overby; sister, Barbara Humphreys; brothers, Morris Filson and Jerry Filson; sister-in-law, Betty Filson; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 1 pm at the Historic Spring Hill Cemetery with Pastor Jeff Lake officiating. Interment will follow in the Historic Spring Hill Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are requested to meet at Spring Hill Funeral Home at 12:45pm to go in procession to the gravesite.
Memorial contributions can be made in Mary Ann's memory to the Dalewood Baptist Church (1586 McGavock Pike Nashville, TN 37216).
