Mary “Lois” Stone, 97, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022. Born October 20, 1924, in McEwen, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late William Nichols and Margaret “Maggie” Hooper Nichols.
Lois married Claude Stone on October 3, 1942. She, her husband and children moved around the United States as Claude was a Marine stationed in different cities. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting. Lois was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be missed dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Claude Stone; her stepfather Radford Gaultney; a son Michael N. Stone; a daughter Nancy C. Locke; 4 sisters; 1 brother; 2 stepsisters; 2 stepbrothers; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her daughter Anita L. McCumber; son Jeffrey (Carla) Stone; grandchildren Richard A. Locke, Jr., Jayme C. Locke, Scott M. (Tonya) McElroy, Summer McCumber Farmer, Ryan Stone, Alexandra Stone, Hannah Stone (Zack) Pinette, and Crystal Stone; great grandchildren Joshua (Emily) McElroy, Jensen (fiancé Cole Murray) McElroy, Olivia McElroy, Elyjah Farmer, Emily Farmer, and Evan Farmer; daughter-in-law Avis Stone; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Spring Hill Funeral Home in Nashville on Friday, July 8, from 10 am until 2 pm. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service officiated by Dr. Kevin Shrum will follow at 2 pm. Entombment will take place in the Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
