Mrs. Mary "Mert" Vantrease's Obituary
Mary “Mert” Vantrease, age 89, of Madison passed away Friday, April 3, 2015. She was born June 28, 1925 in Statesville, TN to the late J.C. and Nellie Vanatta Turner. Besides her parents, Mary is also preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Clyde “Buster” Vantrease; daughter, Judith V. Cuffman; and brothers, T.C. and Edward Turner.
Earlier in life she enjoyed traveling with her husband, quilting and embroidery. Her family says she could have been a millionaire with her delicious potato salad. Mary never missed attending her Bible study at Judson Baptist Church and later in life attended First Baptist Church of Hendersonville. She was a very social lady who is remembered as being very stylish. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister; she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Jerome Edward (Teresa) Vantrease; son-in-law, Jerald Cuffman; grandchildren, Timothy (Surupa) Cuffman, Brandi (Shaun) Rich, Julie Cuffman, and Brooke (Brent) Carter; great-grandchildren, Kale Carter, Kye Rich, Vanlie Rich, Brenning Rich, Karisma Cuffman, Jaidyn Cuffman and Ezra Cuffman; several nieces and nephews; and Halley.
The family will receive friends from 4 – 8 p.m., Monday, April 6th and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until funeral time at Spring Hill Funeral Home. A celebration of life funeral service will be held at 12 p.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2015 in the chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum of Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
