Mary Beth Waller's Obituary
It is with an indescribable sadness that the family of Beth Waller shares the news of her passing. The brightest light, the best mom, daughter, sister, wife and friend anyone could ever ask for, Beth was more than great in these roles. She was the epitome of selflessness and kindness, with an infectious laugh and the most enviable smile. She approached life, in her own words, “through rose-colored glasses” and with so much fun. She saw the best in almost everyone, and in every situation. Even when confronted with a sudden and challenging cancer diagnosis during a time when she was still processing the loss of her husband, she took it head on and kept making plans to live the rest of her life to the fullest–and always with a smile and vitality that is hard to replicate. Quite honestly, her ability to go day to day with such light and humor could be both maddening and enviable, because it was sometimes hard to see how mere mortals can maintain such levity in the face of certain challenges. Her intense positivity translated to her devoting gobs of her time and energy to other people, in particular her kids, husband, and mother, but also acquaintances and sometimes complete strangers. The thing about Beth was that if she heard the call for help or could see a need she could fill, she would with no questions asked. She complimented all of this with a realness, an understanding and frankness that is rare. This culminated into such a strong, resolute, and kind woman who held to her convictions of service and bringing lightness to people however possible. Among other memories of Beth, people will recall her excellent sense of humor, her zest, the amazing kindness she embodied, many fun times, and a true heart of gold. We’re all better people for having her in our lives, as she wouldn’t hesitate to try and convince others to evaluate their own positions, consider seeing the fuller picture, and ultimately to be more gracious when it was easier to default to anger.
Although words do not do justice to how much we will miss her and it will take time to work through the reality that we no longer have her here, we’re comforted by the fact that she is surrounded in heaven by her loving husband, David, her father, Jack, her stepfather, Dorris, and of course her Lord, Jesus Christ.
We invite those who would like to make a donation in lieu of flowers to donate in her memory to either Safe Haven Family Shelter or The Hope Lodge, both in Nashville.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, October 20th from 4:00pm until 7:00 pm followed by a few special words from Pastor Kevin Shrum.
The graveside service will be held for the immediate family and close friends on Saturday, October 29th at 11 am. Everyone that plans on attending needs to meet at the funeral home at 10:30am at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Road in Nashville. There will be a procession to the grave just before 11:00 am.
