Mary Ellen Dean's Obituary
Born September 7, 1923. Mary Ellen went to be with her Heavenly Father on April 24, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard P. Dean, Sr., her daughter Kathy Dean Galloway, her parents Funston and Agnes Demonbreun, and her brother Joseph Demonbreun. She is survived by her daughter Pam Miller of Nashville; her son, Skip (Jennie) Dean of Hendersonville; 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and her ever faithful companion, Tucker, her miniature schnauzer. Mary Ellen graduated from East Nashville High School in 1941. On January 15, 1944, she married the love of her life and dancing partner, Howard. Howard and Mary Ellen were cofounders of Dean’s Kitchen Center. They were faithful long term members of Inglewood United Methodist Church where they raised their family in Christian love. Both were active members of the Booster Class. A special thank you to Mary Ellen’s caregiver, Martha Perry, for the love and caring she showed Mary Ellen and her family. Martha is truly one of God’s angels. The family would also like to thank special friend Ginger Colson for the love and support she has provided during this difficult time. Special thanks to Dr. Whitson Lowe, Dr. Kenneth Vargas, and Dr. Dana Thompson for the care they provided Mary Ellen during her illness. Family will receive friends from 4PM until 8PM today, April 26, 2010 at Spring Hill Funeral Home, Nashville and from 12PM until 1PM Tuesday at Inglewood United Methodist Church, 3211 Gallatin Pike. Funeral service will follow at 1PM at the church. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Cherie Parker, Rev. John Halliburton, and Rev. Tommy Halliburton. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Michael Miller, Denny Galloway, John Waits, Charlie Thompson, Jackie Simons, Billy Sawyer, Chris Glasgow, and Byron Kanaday. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Inglewood United Methodist Church.
