Mary Frances Garner "Sis" King's Obituary
Mary Frances “Sis” Garner King, age 91 of Nashville, passed away on May 9, 2012. She was born April 5, 1921 in Nashville, TN to Noble and Nella Elizabeth Taylor Bess. An amazing mother, grandmother and friend, “Sis” grew up in Nashville, raising her four children, taking care of her mother and brother, all while starting and operating the Starlite Dinner Club. “Sis” turned a cow pasture into Nashville’s oldest ongoing night club and is still open, celebrating 60 years on December 24, 2012. “The Starlite” better known as Mary King or “Sis” is now the star in heaven shining her light on all of us. We miss you granny. It’s hard to find the words to define an icon, but we found it in our special person, “Sis”, whom we all adored and loved so very much. She was preceded in death by her son, Timothy Joseph King. She is survived by her sons, Roger Keefer and Lonnie Dale Garner; daughter, Patricia Garner Frensley; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild. A celebration of “Sis’s” life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 12, 2012 from the Chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Spring Hill Funeral Home. Memorial contributions should be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alzheimers.org.
