Ms. Mattie Lee Moss' Obituary
Mattie Lee Moss, age 89, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on November 20, 2014. Mattie, of the loving and generous heart, will be remembered as living her whole life in service to others, whether it was “her people” or “her animals.” Mattie loved animals of all kinds and kept birds, dogs, and cats; she even adopted some neighborhood dogs and cats! Even the most fearsome dog would become tame and gentle when seeing Mattie with a bowl-full of food.
Mattie loved to garden both flowers and vegetables. She was always putting something out to grow, and her talents extended to the kitchen, too. Family members recall that she would cook for two days straight around Thanksgiving and Christmas and make enough food for an army. It was delicious food, made from scratch, with love as the main ingredient. Mattie was a wonderful cook. She also enjoyed yard sales and decorating.
Mattie leaves behind a loving family – daughters, Wilma Scott and Janice Davis; son, Wayne (Linda) Waggoner; grandchildren, Steve Waggoner, Gretchen (Mark) Olejnik, Jeremy (Stacy) Scott, and Jordan (Sara) Davis; great-grandchildren, Annelise, McKenzie, and Cleland; as well as other loving family members and friends.
Mattie’s family will receive friends and visitors on Sunday, November 23, 2014 from 12pm to 4pm.
A Celebration of Life Service to honor Mattie will take place on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at 4pm. Private interment will follow at a later date at Nashville National Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
