Melody Carlene Rogers' Obituary
Melody Carlene Douglas Rogers passed away with family at her side on March 13th, 2024, at Creekside Center for Rehabilitation and Healing after her third battle with cancer. She was born January 11, 1962, in Nashville, Tennessee.
Preceded in death by her mother Eva Carlene Harrison Douglas and daddy Thomas Marvin Douglas; sister Caren Earps and brother Tommy Douglas; grandparents, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many close friends. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband, Jimmy Rogers, daughter Jacquelyn Rogers, stepson Jimbo Rogers, sister Diane Larkin (Jerry), sister Kathy Waynick, brother Rick Douglas, and her many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Melody earned her Associates Degree in Business at Branell Business College, and was the Housing Coordinator at Nashville Auto Diesel College (NADC) for many years prior to taking early retirement, and continued to be the wife, mother, caregiver, and woman of the house for her immediate family.
Melody’s love for family and close friends had no end, and our love for her is equally as strong. This was evident in life, and by the many visits and calls she received during several hospital admissions, and her long stay in the rehabilitation and healing center at Creekside Center prior to her passing. She loved family gatherings at her home, hosting her annual Halloween parties, Christmas cookie decorating parties, and family Christmas gatherings, with cookouts and bon(d)fires in between. She loved fishing and camping with Jimmy and Jacquelyn, and any family member(s) she could talk into joining her. One of Jimmy and Melody’s “first dates” was night fishing on the Harpeth River. Jimmy said Melody could not stop pulling in the catfish and blue gill that night. What they thought would be 2-3 hours turned into an all-nighter on the sand bars of the Harpeth River, because the fish would not stop biting. Jimmy said there was no talking her into leaving until the fish stopped biting.
She loved the ocean, the beach, and the mountains, with annual family vacations to Panama City Beach in September each year with Jimmy, Jacquelyn, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, and friends (anybody she could talk into going). She also enjoyed spur of the moment trips to Gatlinburg with Jimmy, and planned trips to Gatlinburg and Cherokee, NC with brothers, sisters and friends.
We celebrate and we are forever grateful for Melody’s love of family, her zest for life, and the beautiful memories she has left behind for us. Memories are the gifts from God that death cannot destroy. We are all blessed to have had her.
We will miss her dearly, but take comfort in knowing that her spirit, soul, and heavenly body are with God.
A memorial gathering to honor Melody's life will take place on Saturday, May 25th, 2024 from 2:00 PM until 3:30 PM, with a service to follow at 3:30 PM. All are welcome.
The family invites everyone to join them to gather and share memories of Melody at Eastside Bowl in Madison after the visitation has concluded.
Final arrangements for Mrs. Rogers are entrusted to Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, "Where Nashville Comes to Remember."
