Octavio Luis Latour's Obituary
Octavio Luis Latour, 99, of Nashville, Tennessee, (formerly of Miami, Florida) passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2023. Born January 21, 1924, in Cuba, he was the son of the late Octavio Luis Latour and Elena Laurencio Latour.
He left Cuba for the United States at the age of 17 on a ship eventually arriving in New Orleans, LA, where he volunteered to join the U.S. Merchant Marines and thus became part of the “Greatest Generation”. He served during WWII and traveled in the Atlantic and Pacific ocean regions via ship convoys. Ultimately, he was promoted to quartermaster and was honorably discharged in December 1946 by the U.S. Coast Guard. He was very proud of attaining his American citizenship and always expressed that he was part of the best country in the world. Subsequently, he became an astute business owner and founder of ten retail women's footwear and accessories chain stores in South Florida. He was a deeply religious man of faith and family, loved animals and was known as “The Bull” within his circle, where he had a tremendous and everlasting impact.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Isolina Varela Latour and sister Nelida Abalo Latour.
He is survived by his son, Alan (Anna) Latour; grandchildren Austin (Stephanie) Latour and Morgan Latour and her fiancé Jake Ryan; great grandchildren Leo Luis Latour and Dominic Vincent Latour; siblings Carmen Latour and Maria Elena Blanco.
In keeping with his wishes, Mr. Latour will be cremated and his ashes spread at sea.
