Mr. Odis Lurton O'Barr Jr.'s Obituary
Odis Lurton O’Barr, Jr. age 81 of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2014. Mr. O’Barr was born July 5, 1932 in Nashville, TN to Odis, Sr. and Annie Dee O’Barr.
He was a graduate of Isaac Litton High School and Tennessee Tech. He served as a Captain in the U. S. Army. He owned and operated O’Barr Insurance Agency until his death. He was a former member of the Board of Directors of Teen Challenge Nashville, as well as a member of The Gideons International. He was a dedicated Sunday school teacher of the Winners Class at Inglewood Baptist Church and also attended Grace Baptist Church. Lurton was a sweet and doting husband and father. He dedicated every aspect of his life, from friendships to business to family to honoring the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 40 years, Nancy O’Barr.
He is survived by his daughters, Erin O’Barr and Wendy O’Barr; sister, Ann Gaylia O’Barr-Breedlove and husband, Col. Ben Breedlove; nephew, Rev. Andy Oliver and wife, Jodi Oliver; and nephew, Peter Oliver.
A celebration of Mr. O’Barr’s life will be conducted at 2 P.M., Saturday, January 11, 2013 from the Inglewood Baptist Church with Rev. Andy Oliver officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery with Andy Oliver, Robert Mingle, David Sellars, Bill Greene, Ray Tarkington, Hoffman Harless and Peter Oliver serving as pallbearers. Bob Dean and Larry Westbrook will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday at Spring Hill Funeral Home and from 12 p.m. until the time of service Saturday, at Inglewood Baptist Church.
