Mrs. Opal Mann Durham's Obituary
Opal Mann Durham, age 93, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020 at her residence in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Due to the current pandemic, the celebration of her life will be live streamed from Spring Hill Funeral Home (https://www.springhillfh.com/) on Monday, April 20, 2020, 10:00 am with her former pastor, Rev. Herbert Cunningham officiating. Final resting place will follow the service in the Spring Hill Cemetery. A time of visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, April 19, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Spring Hill Funeral Home. A link to the livestream will posted to this obituary Monday morning.
She was born in Indian Mound, Tennessee on January 7, 1927 the daughter of the late Harold Mann and Bernice Lee Mann. She married Paul Durham in 1947 and they enjoyed 51 years together in Nashville, TN until his death in 1998. They were members of Dalewood United Methodist Church where Mrs. Durham taught the McDonough Sunday School Class for over 40 years. She relocated to Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 2018 to live close to her son, Larry and daughter-in-law, Debbie. She lived a very active life and enjoyed quilting for over 20 years making over 100 quilts. She was a beautiful and gracious lady who loved people and never met a stranger. She enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles. She loved her family and friends very much and enjoyed spending time with them.
In addition to her parents, Harold & Bernice Mann and her husband, Paul Durham, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Paula Russell. She is survived by her son and his wife, Larry & Debbie Durham, Winston-Salem, NC; sister, Linda Handley; son-in-law, Allen Russell; granddaughter, Amy Tolbert & husband, Charlie; great grandsons, Carey & Carter Tolbert; and her very loved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Brighton Gardens for their love and special care of Mrs. Durham the last 2 years. The family suggests donations be made ‘In Memory of Opal Durham’ to the Salvation Army, P. O. Box 78625, Nashville, TN 37207-8625, her favorite charity.
