Opal Mai Harper's Obituary
Mrs. Opal Mai Harper age 95 of Nashville, TN passed away December 6, 2024. She was born June 24, 1929 in Waverly, TN to the late Ed and Ida Sherrod.
Along with her parents, Opal was preceded in death by her loving husband of 72 years Eugene "Gene" Harper; siblings, Nell Petty, Walfield Sherrod, Binkley Sherrod, Sidney Sherrod and Polly Ferrell.
Opal is survived by daughters, Eugenia "Faye" (Fate) Evans and Linda "Dianne" (David) Yates; grandchildren, Teressa Mooneyhan and Tabathia Parks; great-grandchildren, Fate "Drew" Melton, Samuel "Logan" Melton, Abigail Elizabeth Parks and Charles C Parks IV.
Opal started going to the 11th street Church of Christ at a young age and was a member for 70+ years. She was also a Sunday School Teacher there. Opal married Gene when she was 15 and he was 17 and they remained married for 72 years. She was a loving and doting wife to Gene. She loved cooking for him and her children and went to any and all events that Gene was a participant in and her children's events. She was a great cook and people raved about her meals. Opal was great at many things except for golf. She was very athletic and went for walks even in her later days and she was recognized for her speed walking. She was very competitive and had a right with her ability to excel in the activities and sports she played. Opal was a disciplinarian when necessary and all those that knew her knew about the 'stink eye'. She loved music. She never met a baby or child that did not love her, and she would sing to them always.
Opal loved her family and friends greatly and she was dearly loved by her husband, children, family and friends. She will be missed.
