Mrs. Patsey P. Winfrey's Obituary
Patsy Winfrey went to the Lord on Sunday, August 1, 2021, after a long decline in health. We are grateful to the staff at Alive Hospice for caring for her and ensuring that she would be free of pain.
She was born in 1938 and after attending North High, she worked at the Sunday School Board where in 1961 she met her future husband, Buford Winfrey; After marriage they moved to Knoxville, where she earned a BA in journalism at the University of Tennessee. While there, they spent many weekends in the Great Smokies and traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina.
She and Buford later traveled in the west including both the Northwest and the Southwestern states. During their marriage they expanded their trips to Italy, England, Alaska, Switzerland, France, and the Holy Land of Israel. But what she loved above all, was to sit on the beaches of Destin, Florida soaking in the white sand and ocean breezes. One of her joys was singing in the choirs of Emanuel Baptist Church and later McKendree UMC. Later in life, she taught elementary classes in the Metro Public Schools.
Patsy is survived by her artist husband, Buford and many nieces and nephews here and in Indiana.
