Mrs. Patsy Sowell's Obituary
SOWELL, Patsy M – Died October 24, 2016. Predeceased by her loving husband for 54 years, J.D. (Sam) Sowell. Visitation will occur Wednesday October 26, 4 – 8PM. A graveside service will be conducted Thursday, Oct 27, 11 AM at the mausoleum in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Patsy was born in Baxter, TN to parents Oaks and Virginia McBroom.
Patsy was a spirited woman, and devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, aunt, niece and cousin. She (predeceased) had nine siblings including Dot, Dimple, Houston, Ralph, Cecil, Lehman, Clarence, Betty, and Ethel. Between she and Sam, she had over 100 nieces and nephews.
She was mother to Joanie Dixon (Dean Dixon) and Jeff Sowell (Jenni Vaught). She had two grand-daughters, Samantha Grayce Sowell and Sabrina Gabrielle Sowell.
Patsy and Sam were founding members of the Madison Church of Christ and later, Patsy was a member of the Goodletsville Church of Christ. Patsy and Sam loved Bluegrass Music and helped launch Larry’s Grand Ole Garage which still operates today and fondly remembers them both.
Patsy owned and operated Sowell’s Beauty Salon for years in Madison and was known for being dedicated to each of her customers. Her salon was affectionately known as a source for “news” for the local paper.
In addition to her cosmetology skills, Patsy was known as quite the “country cook” in the day. She always had a plate for unexpected guests which would not only include family friends but sometimes the likes of the cast of Hee-Haw, relatives, persons in need and neighbors.
She was one of kind and will be truly missed by her family, customers, neighbors and fellow church members.
RIP, Patsy….we love you.
