Ms. Peggy Crenshaw's Obituary
Peggy Jane Jackson Clark Crenshaw Died Monday, July 22, 2019 at the age of 90. Mrs. Crenshaw is survived by her husband, Robert D. Crenshaw; her son Mark Alan Clark (Cynthea); her daughter, Susan Delia Clark (Donna); and one granddaughter, Meagan Fairchild. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Frances Zeller and Mrs. Rebecca Avril (both of Nashville), one niece, and four nephews.
Mrs. Crenshaw was preceded in death by her parents, John Franklin Jackson and Mary Catherine Lee Jackson. Also, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Lucian T. Clark, Jr.
A lifetime resident of Nashville, Mrs. Crenshaw was educated in the public schools of Nashville and the Peabody Demonstration School. She was a 1946 graduate of Peabody Demonstration School.
Mrs. Crenshaw earned the Bachelor of Science (1950) and Master of Arts (1951) degrees from George Peabody College for Teachers. She became a member of the Peabody Pioneers in 2000.
Her professional career included several years in The Division of Public Service at Peabody College and later as an assistant in the Korean Project at Peabody. In 1959, she joined the faculty of Belmont University (then Belmont College), teaching in the School of Business for 39 years until her retirement in 1998.
Mrs. Crenshaw also taught Court Reporting at the University of Tennessee-Nashville, and later at the Downtown Campus of TSU, from 1974—1998.
She was a life-long member of Inglewood United Methodist Church and in recent years there had been an active member of the Bridge Builders Sunday School class, until the Church’s closing in December 2016. Since then she transferred her membership to Bellshire United Methodist Church and through the years served the church in many ways.
During her lifetime, Peggy held memberships and was very active in several organizations. As a young person, she was active in the Methodist Youth Fellowship at Inglewood United Methodist Church, she was a first-class Girl Scout (Troup at Dan Mills School), a Rainbow Girl, and a member of the Civil Air Patrol Cadets while a student at Isaac Litton High School.
She was a charter member, past president, and life member of the Omega Chapter of Delta Pi Epsilon, an honorary business education society at George Peabody College for Teachers. She was a member and past president of the Tennessee Business Education Association, a member of the Southern Business Education Association and a life member of the National Business Education Association. Through the years, she held several positions of leadership in the associations and regularly attended local and national conventions.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 from 4 PM until 8 PM and from 10 AM to 11 AM on Thursday where Funeral services will immediately follow at 11 AM. Burial will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Spring Hill Funeral Home, 5110 Gallatin Road, Nashville, TN, 37216, a Nashville landmark since 1785 “Where Nashville Comes to Remember”
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to "Charlie's Christmas Party" an organization for needy children from Hattie Cotton Elementary School. Contributions may be made payable to Bellshire United Methodist Church at 1201 Westchester Drive, Nashville, TN 37207, with the subject line indicating that it is “for Charlie’s Christmas.”
