Peggy Joyce McCay's Obituary
Peggy Jenkins McCay, born August 1, 1950, to the late John and Ruby Wilson, grew up in East Nashville alongside her four siblings. A proud graduate of Hume Fogg, she was a cheerleader, baton twirler, and homecoming queen for the Class of 1968.
At just 17, Peggy married the love of her life, Billy Joe Jenkins, with whom she shared 39 devoted years. Together they built their life in Joelton, forming cherished friendships and raising two children, William Bryan and Amanda Michelle. Their family knew profound joy and deep sorrow, including the loss of their beloved son in 1991 and several other close family members in the months that followed. Through every hardship, Peggy’s faith sustained her.
Peggy and Billy later moved to Greenbrier, where they built a business together, eventually opening a flower shop in Joelton. She was blessed with two grandsons, Nicolas and Alexander, who brought immense joy to her life. Billy’s passing in 2007 was a heartbreaking loss, yet Peggy continued forward with remarkable strength.
In 2013, she married her best friend, Roy McCay, with whom she shared love, companionship, and many evenings spent dancing. Even after being diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, Peggy remained resilient—continuing her work as a teacher assistant at Krisle Elementary, serving faithfully at Bethlehem Baptist Church, and staying devoted to her family, friends, and community.
Peggy’s unwavering faith defined her life. She often said, “I am still smiling, still happy, and still standing—because of what Jesus Christ has done for me.” Her hope in Christ carried her through every season, and she shared that hope freely with all who knew her.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are husband of 12 years, Roy McCay, daughter, Mandy (Dwayne) Ralph, grandsons, Nicolas and Alexander, siblings, Dodie Richardson, Janet (Phillip) Griffith, and Cindy Raymond, mother-in-law, Faye Johnson, 2 nieces, 6 nephews, step-children, Wendy (Tim) Sprouse, Dwayne McCay, Nancy (Brad) Treadway, Jason McCay.
She is predeceased by her husband, Billy Joe Jenkins, parents, John A. and Ruby Wilson, Sr., son, Bryan Jenkins, brother, John A. Wilson, Jr., brother-in-law, Billy Richardson, and step-father-in-law, Charles Johnson.
