Mrs. Peggy Joyce Pirtle's Obituary
Peggy Joyce Pirtle - devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother - passed away May 7, 2023.
Born May 31, 1934, Peggy was a polished lady of few words, strong convictions and a steadfast love for her family.
Peggy was born the second of four children to CM and Verna Marie Power in Nashville, TN. Raised in a strict household, Peggy became very disciplined and diligent in her daily routines. She was taught, from a young age, to carry herself with class, humility and sincerity.
Peggy attended East High School in the late 1940s, where she met her soulmate, Joe W. Pirtle. Literal love at first sight, they married in March of 1953 and she became a proud navy wife. Although she spent over forty years in banking, her family was her top priority. A true matriarch, she raised three children and welcomed three grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. She continues to be the foundation that holds them together.
In her younger years, Peggy enjoyed ceramics, bowling and crappie fishing with Joe. Peggy and Joe traveled often, back and forth to California as well as many other destinations, with family and friends. She enjoyed trips with her grandchildren and looked forward to Joe’s annual naval ship reunion, sometimes even more than Joe. She valued a neat, clean house with nothing out of place, almost as much as an afternoon nap. Peggy was a member of Greenbrier First Baptist church, as well as Lockeland and Dalewood Baptist churches in previous years. She was always reading God’s word and devoted a great deal of time to Bible study. Her faith was strong.
She is survived by her son Steve (Nancy); son Brad; daughter Cheri Potts (Bobby); granddaughter Cheryl Carter (Chad); grandson Noah (Sara); granddaughter Kayla Potts; great granddaughter Sophie Carter; great grandson Easton Carter; great grandson Tucker; sister-in-law Joyce Power; brother-in-law Leon Stromatt; sister-in-law Judy Knight; sister-in-law Brenda Walden; brother-in-law Aaron “Honkie”; sister-in-law Judy Pirtle and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Joe; father CM Power; mother Verna Marie Turner; sister Verna Jean Weed; sister Bobbie “Dee-Dee” Stromatt; brother Chester Power.
Visitation with the family will be at Spring Hill Funeral Home, Nashville, TN, May 15, 2023, 4-8pm, Tuesday May 16, 2023, 12-2pm, followed by a celebration of life and burial.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Greenbrier First Baptist Church 204 West Smith Street, Greenbrier, TN 37073.
