Mr. Philip Thomas Smith's Obituary
Philip Thomas Smith, age 90, of Franklin, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2013. He was born in Memphis, TN on September 18, 1923. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Gloria Jean Smith; son, Michael Smith (Nina); daughter, Jacqulyn P. Downey (Thomas); daughter, Debra Woodlee; grandchildren, Heather, Ashley, and Nathan Woodlee; great-grandchildren, Brayah and Emme. Mr. Smith was a World War II Veteran in the US Navy. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with 5 stars, Air Medal with 2 gold stars, Combat Air Crew 1 Insignia with 3 gold stars, and a Distinguished Flying Cross with commendation ribbon. Mr. Smith retired from BellSouth in Memphis, after 44 years of service. He was a member of Holmes Road Church of Christ in Memphis for 40 years. Also, he was a member of Concord Road Church of Christ in Brentwood for the past 8 years. A Celebration of Life service shall be conducted for Mr. Smith on Friday, November 8, 2013 at 1:00pm, from the Serenity Mausoleum at Historic Spring Hill Cemetery. Family shall receive visitors in the Chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home from 11:30am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Church of Christ Disaster Relief Effort, 410 Allied Dr., Nashville, TN 37211.
