Mrs. Ramona Santiago Rodriguez's Obituary
Ramona Santiago Rodriguez, age 94, of Old Hickory, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2019 in Nashville, Tennessee. Ramona was born on August 4, 1924 in Yauco, Puerto Rico, to the late Modesto Santiago and Rosa Toro Santiago.
Ramona was an amazing woman. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, and wife who loved her family unconditionally. She contributed her long life to the love received from her family. Her road to becoming a nurse, included attending classes at Seton Hall University and Glassboro State College (now Rowan University). Ramona worked 29 years for the Board of Education for the state of New Jersey as a school nurse. She was a devoted member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She pioneered and founded Seventh-Day Adventist Spanish Churches in Hoboken and Vineland, New Jersey. She spear headed programs to help the homeless, such as the Tiny Tim Organization.
During the last 10 years of her life, her joy came from watching her great granddaughter play the violin and her great grandson play baseball. She would direct her daughter to wheel her out to the ball field to watch him play. She would share all her meals with her beloved dog, “Trevor”. She loved watching the birds come to her feeders and keeping up with daily political news. She ended every day with a prayer. A prayer where she named every member of her family.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Eduardo Rodriguez; her beloved sister Elba Rose Santiago Morales; a brother Dulcidio Santiago.
She is survived by her daughter Lisbedth (Franklin) Rodriguez Cardona; grandchildren Jenevieve (Albert Allen Smith III) Cardona, Maresha (Jonathan Burks) Cardona; great-grandchildren Jadyn Olivia Tarver and Albert Allen Smith IV; her second children Robert (Donna) L.
