Richard Arthur Henderlight's Obituary
Henderlight, Richard A. born 10/25/1945 to Creole and Richard Henderlight lost his courageous battle with cancer on 6/19/11. A man of many talents, Rick was known for his quick wit, his savvy, and his unconditional and abiding loyalty to those he loved. Fierce in his commitments and opinions, he was also fair in their application. A graduate of Carson-Newman College, Rick spent his adult life in government service holding positions as Bristol's City Manager, the Superintendent of Spencer Youth Correctional Center, top aid to Governor Ray Blanton, Director of Security for Children's Comprehensive Services, and Director of Intake for Tennessee DHMR. He was never motivated by the trappings of power but by it’s just and equal application in the service of others. He was the champion of those marginalized by power, those with not enough, those picked last if picked at all. He sought the best in and for his family and friends, who miss him now and always will. He leaves a legacy rich, diverse, and full, one that will be carried on by his wife Karen Henderlight, his daughter and son-in-law John and Brye Powers, daughter Neysa Mitchum, Koye Henderlight, Kara Henderlight, step-daughter Lindsey Smith-Chaney, Grandchildren: John Stephen and Mitchell Powers; Sarah Mitchum, Neveah Henderlight, and Brooklyn Chaney.Donations may be made in his honor to the Blakemore Endowment Fund, 3601 West End Ave., Nashville, TN 37205 or to Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson St., Nashville, TN 37203. A Memorial Service will be held at Blakemore United Methodist Church at 12PM, Saturday, June 25th with visitation two hours prior. Rev. Dr. Herbert Lester to officiate.
