Mr. Richard Morris Evans' Obituary
Age 94. Born on December 1, 1920 and died on July 16, 2015 at the Alive Hospice residence in Nashville after a short battle with brain cancer.
He is survived by his beloved wife of seventy years, Georgia Mae Phillips Evans. Although he and Georgia never had children of their own, they were treasured dearly by their numerous nieces and nephews, their large extended family, and all of their children and grandchildren. He was particularly close to the children of his late sister, Dorothy Mae Evans Smith (Gene.) He is survived by her children Roy E. Smith, Jr. (Cathy), Patricia Phipps (John) and Marilyn Burney (Michael.) They and their children and grandchildren all consider “Uncle Morris and Aunt Georgia” like grandparents.
A decorated WWII Veteran, he was a truly kind and gentle man, known by some as “Richard” and others as “Morris.” After a long career at Dixie Electrotype, he and Georgia retired to their farm in Whites Creek, where he loved to ride his tractor, care for his horses, tend his garden, and spend quality time working in his extensive woodshop. In their later years, they moved to Ashland City, and then to Madison. He had the rare talent to earnestly engage and make comfortable all of those he met.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Maybelle Carter Senior Living Center for their support and love for Morris, and their continued care for Georgia.
Visitation will be on Monday, July 20 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Tuesday, July 21 from 11 a.m. to noon. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 21 at noon. Visitation and funeral services will be held at the Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, Madison, Tenn.
