In addition to being one on Nashville's best ever athletes and successful coaches, he was the life and spirit of every gathering. His unmatched horse laugh would bring joy to the saddest of occasions as I am confident the welcoming angels have already discovered. I was sad to hear of the passing of Coach Hewitt. I was privileged to have him as a football coach at Hume-Fogg from '76-'78. He was a great encouragement to me on and off the field. May God bring peace to his family.

Coach Hewitt has always stayed in my mind over the years. He taught me so many things, but one thing stands out the most. I was in track at DCA from 1987-1990. He was teaching me proper form for running and he said, "Melanie! Why are you looking down at the ground? Look up! Look at what is ahead of you! You can't know where you are going unless you face it! Pump your arms like you are pulling up with a rope to propell you forward." This is something that has come to mind over and over through the years. I tend to go through life with my head down, but his words come back to me. "Look up!" Thank you, Coach! Love and prayers to your family! See you again in Glory!

So sorry to hear about Coach Hewitt. I was on the Basketball team in the eight grade at Dalewood Ele. in 1954. One of my only times to play a school sport. Loved every minute of it. Prayers and thoughts to the family at this time. Graduated from Issac Littlon in 1958. Tom Council.....
