Mr. Richard Gary "R. G." Nolan's Obituary
Mr. Richard Gary “R.G.” Nolan age 73 of Columbus, Ind. Passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2015 in Columbus, Ind.
Before retirement he was a self employed farrier for over 35 years. He obtained his Farrier Science Degree at the University of Tennessee. In earlier years he trained horses and worked with the Mounted Patrol in Washington, D. C. shoeing their horses. He shod and cared for the horses at Sycamore Hills Girls Camp in Ashland, TN. He loved blacksmithing and creating things out of horseshoes. He was a collector of watches and knives. He enjoyed attending events with the Masons and volunteering.. Born in McKenzie, TN, R. G. was the son of Leo Frank Nolan and Alma Christine Johnson Putnam. He attended the First
Methodist Church in Flat Rock, IN, and was a member of the Hope Masonic Lodge #150. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Alma; son, Richard Gregory Nolan; his step-mother, Kathryn Nolan and his step-father, George Putnam. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Lynn (Eric) Snyder of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Megan (Grant) Gardner of San Francisco, Ian Snyder of Washington, D.C. and Hayden Snyder of Nashville, TN; siblings, Wade (Melissa) Putnam, Mickey Ray Nolan and Carol Sue Putnam and Rickey Nolan. Several nieces and nephews also survive; companion, Carol Rich of Hope, IN; his brothers of the Masonic Lodge, especially those of Hope masonic lodge #150 and all those who participated in the world’s largest trail ride in Eminence, MO for over 35 years.
His family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28 and on Wednesday, July 29 from 11 a.m. until 12: 45 p.m. at Spring Hill Funeral Home. Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. at Spring Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions should be made to the Girl Scouts of Middle, TN 4522 Granny White Pk.
