Mr. Richard M. (Dickie) Pope's Obituary
Retired Lieutenant Richard M. (Dickie) Pope passed away Friday, September 18, 2015.
Lieutenant Pope was a 41 – year veteran of the Tennessee Highway Patrol and served at the Governor’s residence with former Governors Dunn, Blanton, and Alexander. He was a member of the Yellow Jackets, a special elite group of motorcycle troopers. After retirement, he instructed new recruits in firearm classes at the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Center in Donelson.
Dickie was born on Christmas Day, 1932, to the late George M. and Mabel L. Pope. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Laverne Pendergrass Pope. Survivors include a sister, Judy Pope Baggett; nephew, Doug (Noreen) Baggett and their children, Rachel and Emily, all of Kingwood, TX; and a niece, Sharon Baggett (John) Moran and their children, Mackenzie and Ian, all of West Bloomfield, MI.
The family wishes to thank Dickie’s “special daughters” Adrienne Russell and Dana Hannah and his devoted friends, Susie Waggoner and Denny King. A very special thanks to the staff of Life Care Center of Old Hickory.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation noon to 2:00 pm Tuesday, September 22nd. Graveside service will follow, conducted by Denny King, 2:30 p.m. at Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
