Mr. Robert H. Anderson, Sr.'s Obituary
Robert Harlin Anderson passed away on November 26, 2014 after an extended illness.
He was born in Akron, Ohio on November 10, 1925 to Mamie Waller Anderson and John S. Anderson, both of the Nashville area. The family, including brother, John Waller Anderson (1920), returned to East Nashville soon after, and Robert lived the rest of his life in the Nashville area.
Mr. Anderson attended Jere Baxter Elementary School and two years at Isaac Litton High School. He graduated from Columbia Military Academy in 1944 and immediately entered the Army, serving in the German Occupation until 1946.
He married Mary Elizabeth Ables (1926-2005) of Fayetteville in 1948 and had two children, Linda Jean Anderson (Claude Monken) of New Jersey and Robert Harlin Anderson, Jr. (Stacy) of Hendersonville. He has three grandchildren: Robert Harlin Anderson III (Kelly), Anderson E. Monken, and Delia J. Monken.
Mr. Anderson is a 1950 graduate of Vanderbilt University, with a BA in Chemistry. He has been a loyal Vanderbilt fan since childhood, and he was proud to see his daughter graduate from VU in 1975. The Vanderbilt tradition continues, with his grandson, Anderson, currently attending.
Mr. Anderson retired from the Tennessee Department of Transportation in 1992. He was also employed with Dupont and Gates Rubber Company.
A deacon at Riverside Drive Church of Christ for many years, he was a devout Christian. He was an avid golfer and long-time member of Old Hickory Golf Club.
Mr. Anderson’s family will receive friends and visitors on Saturday, November 29, 2014 from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m., at Spring Hill Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Ceremony to honor Mr. Anderson will take place on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at 1 p.m., from the Chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Good Shepherd Garden of Historic Spring Hill Cemetery, with family and friends serving as Pallbearers.
As a tribute to his deep passion for animals, especially dogs, memorial donations may be made to ASPCA or any other animal-related charity.
