Robert "Bob" Lee Laura's Obituary
Robert "Bob" Lee Laura, 76, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026. He was born on August 29, 1949, to Francis Paul Laura and Onita N. Laura (Troutt).
Bob lived a life filled with music, faith, and service. Music was more than a hobby—it was a part of who he was. He loved all kinds of music and especially enjoyed sharing that passion with others. For most of his life, Bob volunteered as a drummer in churches, using his talent to enhance worship and bring joy to those around him. His faith and love of music were inseparable, and he was never happier than when he was behind a drum set.
Bob also had a deep appreciation for the performing arts. He volunteered for many years at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC), where he enjoyed helping others experience live theater. One of Bob's favorite musicals was Wicked, a production he never tired of seeing. His taste in music was as diverse as his personality, ranging from the timeless songs of Johnny Cash to the classic rock of the Eagles. No matter the genre, music remained one of his lifelong passions.
Above all, Bob cherished the people he loved. He is survived by his loving husband and partner, Ed Purtscher; his children, Doug Laura, Michael Laura, and Lynsey Brown; his brother, Francis "Bud" Laura; and his beloved grandchildren, Gia Laura, Roman Laura, Adriana Laura, and Natalie Laura.
Bob will be remembered for his generous heart, his unwavering faith, his love of music, and the countless lives he touched through his service. Whether playing the drums in church, volunteering at the theater, or listening to his favorite songs, he embraced life with joy and shared that joy with everyone fortunate enough to know him. Though he is no longer with us, the rhythm of his life and the memories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
