Robert Eugene King age 93, passed away on Sunday June 28, 2020 at his home. Robert was born on August 19, 1926 to the late Tom Russell and Maggie Lee King. He is survived by his wife of over 71 years, Mary Ann (Allen) King and his loving family: Daughters: Carol King Keopf; Becky (Tom) Avaritt; Judy (Aaron) Lumpkin; Robin (Gary) Brunett; and Son: Robert (Donna) King, Jr.; Grandchildren: Jay (Sandra) Keopf; Chris (Mandy) Keopf; Jeremy (Marie) Keopf; Lesly Avaritt; Allen Avaritt; Daniel (Taylor) Avaritt; Josh Lumpkin; Neil Brunett; Ethan (Bethany) Brunett; Samuel (Hannah) King; Zach King; Great-grandchildren: Mikalya, Jameson, Michael, and Karina Keopf; Ramey, Kinsey, and Serenity Keopf; Caroline and Ellie Keopf; Elliott and Lucy Avaritt; and Ben King. He is also survived by his Sister, Shirley (Billy) Akin, Sister-in-law Doris B. King and preceded in death by his Brother Thomas King. In addition he was preceded in death by Son-in-law James Keopf; Grandchildren Jonathan Keopf; Eric Lumpkin; Great-grandchildren: Lochlan and Nolan Keopf.
Robert was presently a faithful member of the Jackson Park Church of Christ. He grew up at Shelby Avenue Church of Christ serving as a deacon for 19 years and as an elder for 37 years.
He was a native of East Nashville and in the class of 1944 at East Nashville High School when he was drafted at the age of 18. He was sent for basic training with the U. S. Army and then sent to Europe during WWII as part of the 3rd Army. He reenlisted while overseas and was part of the Army of Occupations after WWII. Upon discharge in 1947 he began a career in the printing business. He retired from Cordage Paper Company in sales in 1988.
He wanted nothing more than for his family to know and love God. He loved the time his family would meet and celebrate everyone’s birthday at his home. During his retirement in addition to serving the Church, he especially loved golf, photography, Rook, and travel.
Visitation with family will be at Spring Hill Funeral Home on Thursday, July 2 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Services will be Friday, July 3 at 10:00 am with visitation an hour before. Grandchildren will serve as pall bearers, great-grandchildren will serve as honorary pall bearers, and family members will conduct services. Congregational singing will be led by Randy Hatchett. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
