Mr. Robert Leftwich's Obituary
Robert A. Leftwich, Sr. age 96, passed away at his son’s house in Hendersonville, TN on July , 2018. Born in Cookeville, TN on February 19, 1922 he was the son of Sam Ernest and Sarah Lois Leftwich. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 59 years Dorothy L. Leftwich, his three brothers, Joe Elmer, Samuel Willard and Ralph Madison, his sister Katherine Cavanaugh, his daughter Patricia L, Edwards and his granddaughter Kristina M. Layne. He is survived by his son Robert A. Leftwich, Jr (Linda) of Hendersonville, TN, grandchildren Michael B. Leftwich (Janis Turner) and Ann-Marie Gleason (Chris) of Nashville, TN, Stephanie Haggerty (Kevin) of Portland, OR, Eric Eim of New York, NY and JP Layne of Hendersonville, TN and nine great grandchildren.
He graduated from East Nashville Senior High School in 1941 and then was employed by DuPont in Old Hickory, TN. His World War II service was with the 1st U.S. Marine Division and he experienced combat at Guadacanal. After the War he returned to work at DuPont and worked at their plants in Kingston, NC, Seaford, DE and Old Hickory, TN until he retired in 1982. He was one of the original members of Parkway Baptist Church, Madison TN and served as a deacon there for many years. He loved gardening, square dancing with his wife, Vanderbilt baseball and being with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A deep thank you to the staff of the VA Home Based Primary Care unit who gave him great medical care and to his home caregivers over the years, especially Sherry Smallman. Visitation will be on Fri., July 13 from 4-8 PM. Funeral services will be Sat., July 14 at 10 AM at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery. www.springhillfh.com
