Mr. Robert McKnight's Obituary
Robert Wade McKnight, 67, was surrounded by friends and family when he went peacefully into the arms of our Lord on Friday, October 14, 2016. Robert was preceded in death by his brothers William, James, Charles and Elmer. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Mary Ann; his daughter, Jennifer; his son, Timothy; daughter in law, April; grandchildren Savanna, Cheyenne and Timothy II; and one sister, Brenda McNeese.
Robert was born on October 12, 1949 to Robert Edward and Bessie McKnight in Nashville. In 1971, Robert went to work for General Boy as a press operator and was a loyal employee for 37 years until the company closed.
Robert was a quiet and reserved man, many never knew the person he was with his family and close friends. Although he rarely let loose and laughed, when he did it was contagious; everyone laughed. Robert was quite the prankster. All of his family recall an “I made you look” moment, especially on April Fool’s Day; he’d get you every time. If Robert was aggravating you, it meant he liked you; which meant you were able to enjoy his great sense of humor.
Robert enjoyed working with wood. From crafting to building, you could always find him tinkering with something. He built everything from wooden carousels to a deck for the backyard. Mostly he enjoyed relaxing on the porch with a cup of good coffee.
Robert was a private man, the only time he was truly himself was with his wife, Mary Ann. With her he found a soulmate, a companion, and a kindred spirit; they could even finish each other’s sentences. Someone once commented that they’d never seen two people so in synch. With Mary Ann he could be his absolute self, a rare and precious thing.
Mary Ann and family would like to give a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to all of their extended family, friends, and church family who kept them in their thoughts and prayers. A special ‘thank you’ to the caring staff at Alive Hospice for such loving and tender care they provided to Robert; it meant the world to them.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at East Nashville Baptist Church-2100 Scott Ave. A visitation with family will start at 11:00am, with a service to follow at 12:00pm. Brother Roy Copeland, Brother Danny Everett, and Brother Tommy Percle to preside. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the family.
