My first memories as a child, was going to watch Uncle Roger play baseball at Shelby Park. I enjoyed those times. I remember going to the bowling alley and watching him and the other adults bowl on a league. That was a lot of fun for all the children.
I remember being at Uncle Roger's and he asked me what kind of pizza I liked. I had no idea what pizza was. Everyone laughed. I love pizza now.
At one point in my life as a child, my aunt and uncle took me in and gave me a nice room in their home. They took care of me for awhile during an unfortunate time in my young life. It's amazing what family does for family.
The memory I will CHERISH FOREVER, was a couple of weeks ago. It came to be our last conversation. I had been having some issues earlier in the year, and had several times asked him for advice or to maybe even step in and try to change the situation for me. He always declined gracefully as he didn't want to interfere. So I just dealt with it to the best of my ability.
The situation changed over the last 6 months. I had no idea why, but I never questioned it. About two weeks ago, Uncle Roger called to check on me and the family as he often did. He asked, so how is that situation going for you? I said, miraculously it had changed for the better. He responded, "that's good to hear." I said, "you wouldn't have had anything to do with that would you?" He giggled and said, " Who...Me?" At that moment I knew that he was responsible for taking that burden from me.
I love you Uncle Roger. Thanks for the memories. R.I.P.
