I had the honor and pleasure to meet Ronnie at the Renfro Valley Bluegrass Festival. It was right after he had just wrote Three Rusty nails. He was the kindest soul. This man pulls up at our camp on a golf cart, wearing bibs and a white tee shirt. He had told my brother in law that he wanted him to hear this new song he just wrote. Ronnie sat by the camp fire singing and his voice was like heavens choir had serenaded us that night. I didn’t at the time know of Ronnie and he brought tears to my eyes. I remember telling my sister, wow he is amazing and is going to be a big star. Of course I was kind of new to bluegrass scene, my sister and everyone there started laughing, my sister said umm Ronnie is big. I wanted to die right there. Ronnie just laughed and said I’m really not, but thank you for the compliment. He was such a kind and down to earth man. That night I absolutely fell in love with his talent and the person he was. He will forever be my favorite of all time. I know Heavens choir is sounding so much sweeter with him. Fly High Ronnie, you will Never be forgotten.
