I didn't like going to school the first couple of years. I had to walk up Greenfield to Gallatin Road and then cross at Jere Baxter. That entire walk was filled with so much dread, but when I got to the cross walk there stood Mrs. Meador all decked out in Black and White, giving me a smile and walking me across the street. As time wore on, she called my by name and I began to look forward to seeing her every morning. I got older and it was easier to go to school, but Mrs Meador was always the first person I'd show my new bike or my new shoes too.
I was very proud when she hired me to be a crossing guard for her.
Looking back, those were only a matter of minutes we spent together each day, but I remember her more than I do my teachers and some of my friends. I always thought Buddy was a lucky kid to have a mom that cool.
God bless you all. I am sorry for your loss.
